Imura Art Gallery Kyoto is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of Takashi HINODA, titled 'Dust in a vortex in a vortex swirling in a vortex'.
Takashi Hinoda was born in Kobe in 1968 and lives and works in Kyoto. Currently he teaches as an associate professor at Kyoto Saga University of Arts and holds many exhibitions, both in Japan and abroad. Hinoda's works and installations have been widely appreciated in Japan, Asia, US and Europe.

Hinoda titled his work "Omnivorous 2.5 dimension Ceramic". The shapes of his works are organic and complex curved. The surfaces are covered with outlined graphics and characters inspired by Japanese and American comics. Hinoda creates his works by stacking spindly clay which then gets spray colored, supplemented with intricate line-work and skilfully covered with self-adhesive sheets. The 3-dimensional shapes both intersect with and coexist next to the 2-dimensional space of the painted surfaces.
Motives of his drawings derive from a wide range of sources such as Manga, comics graffiti, architecture,illustration, film, music, billboards in cities, Ukiyoe, Otsue and many more. This is why he named his work"Omnivorous". The use of vibrant artificial colors such as purple, yellow and red reduces the dignity and hardy texture of the ceramics, making his works appear strange and unfamiliar to the viewer.

His installations are just as remarkable. By attaching cut out and self-adhesive sheets on wall, floor and ceiling,it appears as if the graphics and outlines of his sculptures would leave the surface and extend into space.
In this exhibition he will present us with a new expanded style.

In spite of the time-consuming process, Hinoda keeps creating new works at high spreed, creating his original world.

この度、イムラアートギャラリー京都では日野田崇個展「渦の中で渦巻く渦の中に見 える渦の中の塵」を開催いたします。

現在、日野田は京都嵯峨芸術大学芸術学部の准教授として教鞭をとりながら、国内外で活動の場を広げています。
彼は自身のやきものを「雑食の2.5次元陶芸」と表現します。有機的かつ複雑な曲線を描く陶の立体の表面は黒く縁取りされたマンガやコミックを彷彿させる図柄で覆われています。紐状の粘土を積み重ねながら成形した陶による造形物の表面にマスキングテープを自在に用い、色土を吹き付けながら線による描写と彩色を施していきます。立体の表面に絵画的な二次元が表れ、2.5次元の世界が広がります。
描かれる図像のイメージ源は漫画、コミック、グラフィティ、建築、イラストレーション、映画、音楽、街中で目にする看板、浮世絵や大津絵など多岐にわたり、雑食的だと言います。又、やきものらしくない人口的な紫や黄、赤といった色彩を使う事により、陶器の重厚感や硬質な素材性が軽減され、独特の陶の質感を感じさせます。

日野田の展示で特徴的なのは、カッティングシート（プラスティックシート）を使用し、展示空間を作り上げていくことです。カッター１本、フリーハンドでロール状のシートをカッティングしながら床や壁に貼り込んでいく作業は、時間的、計画的プロセスを経て焼き上がってきた陶の立体と非常に対照的で即興的な作業です。今回の展示では、カッティングシートでの空間インスタレーションを更に発展させ、モビール状にしたものを展示空間で使用する予定です。

時間を要する制作行程にも関わらず、ハイスピードで沸き上るイメージを淡々と制作し続ける日野田の強靭な精神力と創造力は自身を満足させることなく、制作にかき立てているように見えます。陶芸というジャンルを自由に横断し、独自の世界観を展開していく日野田の最新作を是非ご高覧ください。
