We are proud to present the exhibition of Masaomi Raku at the Imura Art Gallery.

The Raku family of Kyoto has been the master of ceramic wares and has been integral to the history of tea culture for more than 450 years. Masaomi Raku was born in Kyoto as the second son of Kichizaemon Raku the 15th.

After graduating from the Tokyo Zokei University Graduate School, he has produced abstract forms from his unique sensibilities using Zimbabwe black (a stone from Africa). This exhibition will feature two of his works, including one that is 170cm tall.

Masaomi Raku's works synthesize the contrast between the raw expression of the chipped stone and the stoic elegance of the hand-polished curved surfaces into a extensive form that extends toward the sky. The result is an mystifying sculpture that emphasizes the natural energy of the stone layered with the weight and an expression of silence unique to stone.

In the words of Masaomi Raku, his aspiration is "To seek the expression within the stone. To seek the nature with the expression."

この度イムラアートギャラリー京都では、樂雅臣 個展を開催いたします。

樂雅臣は、茶の湯の歴史とともに茶碗師として450年以上の時を重ねてき た京都・樂家、その第15代樂吉左衞門の次男として京都に生まれました。 東京造形大学大学院を卒業後、独自の感性で黒御影石（アフリカ産ジンバ ブエブラック）を用いた、抽象的なフォルムの作品を発表し続ける注目の作 家です。 本展では、高さ170センチにもなる大作を含む、2点を展示致します。 制作初めに石を割る際にできる割れ肌の力強さと、手で磨き上げられた滑 らかな曲面の優美さ、すらりと天へ向かうフォルムの伸びやかさ。絶妙なバ ランスで異なる表情が織りなす静謐と、自然のエネルギーを感じさせる石 独特の重厚感を兼ね備え、えも言われぬ風情ある佇まいの作品となっています。

「石の中に表現を、表現と共に自然を。」

樂雅臣が彫刻する上で大切にしているこの言葉どおり、決して自然を支配 する事なく、石とひたすらに向き合うことで生み出される神秘な世界をご堪能ください。
