Imura art gallery is pleased to announce “Odd NIGHT,” a solo exhibition by Yu Kiwanami.
Anchored by figures with unseen faces that are a persistent feature of his work, Yu Kiwanami’s output ranges from paintings with flat colors and clearly defined outlines to pieces with painterly backgrounds that evoke a narrative feel. This range initially suggests an expansive style, but the artist’s work clearly displays a passion for flatness. Even when he eschews flat colors and applies more painterly touches, Kiwanami consciously uses his paints to create a flatter impression.
“Odd NIGHT” is the artist’s first show in Kyoto in seven years. Including many new works, it enables a fresh examination of Kiwanami’s exploration of flat space.

この度イムラアートギャラリーは、極並佑の個展「Odd NIGHT」を開催いたします。
極並は、かわらず存在し続ける顔の見えない人物像を軸として、はっきりとした輪
郭線にフラットな彩色の作品から、物語性を感じさせるペインタリーな背景の作品
まで描いてきました。一見、幅のある画風にも見えますが、フラットな色彩の場合
だけでなく、ペインタリーなタッチの場合の画面上の絵の具もよりフラットな印象となるよう意識されており、平面性にこだわりを感じさせられます。
京都では７年ぶりとなる本個展では、新作の数々を展覧いたします。平面空間の広がりを、ぜひ間近にご高覧くださいませ。
