imura art gallery is pleased to present Takashi Hinoda Solo Exhibition “Music of landed colors”, opening October 3, 2026.
For this exhibition, Hinoda will present seven new works as the current manifestation of “Hands-on Visionamusement” (Shushikikeigaku), an artistic concept he has been developing in recent years. Through this term, coined by the artist himself, Hinoda continues to reconsider the inherent value and fascination of color and form in their own right. Drawing elements from diverse fields—including popular culture, ceramics, and the rules and structures of harmony and rhythm found in improvised music—he combines and transforms them into new forms of sculptural expression.
In Hinoda’s recent practice, his own set of rules for determining color and form has become increasingly explicit. Choices of color and form that were once made intuitively are gradually evolving into more systematic methods. Rather than leaving color and form entirely to chance or intuition, Hinoda establishes specific relationships and rules through which he explores the possibilities inherent in form itself.
Underlying this approach is Hinoda’s longstanding engagement with music. He has been particularly inspired by the ideas of Russian composer Alexander Scriabin, who explored correspondences between color and sound. Just as harmony and rhythm in music are governed by particular relationships and structures, Hinoda seeks to identify relationships and structures within color and form and translate them into sculpture. By creating his own system of correspondences between sound and color, he explores ways of determining color and form. These experiments transform invisible musical structures into tangible three-dimensional forms through color and shape.
From sound to color, from color to form. And finally, they find their final form in clay.
Through this new body of work, we invite you to experience the current state of Hinoda’s ongoing exploration of “Hands-on Visionamusement” (Shushikikeigaku)
