Imura Art Gallery is pleased to present “The Third Path,” a duo exhibition featuring the works of Kaoru Usukubo and Daisuke Ohba.

The two artists, who have based their creative pursuits at a studio here in Kyoto since 2013, say that the decision to hold an exhibition in this city was a very natural turn of events. The showing will feature works that emerge from the artists’ ideal of a “workshop for experimental painting” and visualize the continuity of coincidence and invisible presences.

The exhibition’s title signifies many different types of paths—a narrow path that is not a major thoroughfare, a path that is difficult to see and traverse, a spiritual path that diverges from the mainstream, a path of spiritual exploration in the vein of Rudolf Steiner, or the path of wanderlung (inner journey). These are seen as third places and happenings by the two artists, who believe that not only logic and structure but also things like chance and mystique are all indispensable elements that function as a driving force in the creation of paintings.

この度、イムラアートギャラリーでは、薄久保香と大庭大介による二人展「第三の径」を開催いたします。

2013年から京都にアトリエを構えている二人にとって、ここ京都で展覧会を開催することは、ごく自然な流れだったといいます。本展では、二人が提唱する「絵画実験工房」の延長として、偶然の連続性や目に見えない存在が視覚化され「絵画」となった作品群を展覧いたします。 

第三の径というタイトルは、幹線ではない細い道、見えにくい・通りにくい道、主流から逸れた霊的道、シュタイナー的な「霊的探究の道」や、ヴァンダールング（内的遍歴）にも通じる様々な「径（こみち）」を意味しています。絵画の制作において、論理や構造だけではない、偶然性や神秘性なども全て一つの動力として欠かせない要素であると考える両作家は、それらを第三の場や出来事として捉えています。

 「一つの点が、一本の線を伝いながら、まだ名づけられていない空間へとやってくる。」
